Love My Job: Jasmine Lee, FantaSea Yachts

We’re kicking off 2022 with a brand new blog series called, “Love My Job.” Each article will feature someone who works in Marina del Rey and loves doing what they’re doing every day! This month, we featured Jasmine Lee, General Manager of FantaSea Yachts. Her job is to help plan weddings and parties on fabulous yachts in Marina del Rey. What’s not to love!? Read below to get the inside scoop on why Jasmine loves her job.

What was your first job?

I was lucky to start at FantaSea Yachts as a summer intern after my sophomore year at UCLA and now 25 years later, I am super grateful to be here as the General Manager.

How'd get you started in event planning?

Growing up, I was a flower girl at 7 weddings and there began my love of everything weddings. I loved that you can take any space and turn it into a beautiful, magical experience. During my sophomore year at UCLA I was tasked with planning the senior banquet for the Korean American Christian Fellowship and started my research for venues by opening up the Yellow Pages and found an ad for FantaSea Yachts. I loved planning the banquet so much that I called around to different wedding planners to see if they wanted an intern/volunteer for the summer. Once Daniel Ginzburg, the owner found out, he asked me to join FantaSea Yachts as a summer intern. Needless to say, I fell in love with the company and am lucky to be in an industry that I am passionate about.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that every day I get to meet new people, learn about different cultures and traditions. I love that we literally make dreams come true. We get to take a vision and bring it to life with each event. We have the honor of creating a special moment that creates a lifetime of memories. Life, birthdays and every special moment and achievement in between should be celebrated with loved ones and it is such a blessing to be able to share that with so many clients. I also love that I get to work alongside a team of staff that are just as passionate and dedicated.

Any tips for someone looking to work in event planning?

I think it is best to start by finding a venue, place or company that you love and getting your foot in the door with any position and learning as much as possible. Every position has unique opportunities that you can take and grow from. It can also help you figure out which parts of the industry you love most.

What do you do on your days off?

When I’m not planning weddings or parties on a yacht, you can find me focusing on “self-care” - working out, getting a massage, trying out new restaurants and travel when possible.
