No car, no problem here in Marina del Rey. With several free and low-cost transportation options, you don’t need a rental car to enjoy your vacation on the Los Angeles coast.
WATERBUS
The Marina WaterBus will operate this summer from June 21 – September 1, 2024.
Catch the summer-season WaterBus from any of eight stops in the Marina and enjoy a unique mode of transport to dining, hotels, and water recreation options. Park your car in one of the local lots and use the WaterBus for a direct drop-off at many waterside destinations, including Burton Chace Park.
Rides are $1 each way. Strollers and bikes are allowed; no pets.
The WaterBus runs Fridays through Sundays and holidays in the summer including Thursday, July 4th (Fourth of July) , 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Monday, September 1st (Labor Day), 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

THE BEACH SHUTTLE - RETURNS FOR SUMMER SEASON
The free Playa Vista Beach Shuttle runs a loop between Playa Vista, Marina del Rey, and the Venice Pier. Hop on these orange buses Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Sundays and select holidays, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; and on Saturdays for the Summer Concert Series at Burton Chace Park.

PUBLIC BUS SERVICE
The Santa Monica Big Blue Bus is a great way to explore the Los Angeles Westside. In the Marina, Route 3 travels along Lincoln Boulevard to Santa Monica, where you can visit the Pier and shop at Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place. There are two Route 3 lines – one is an express, with limited stops, so check with the driver about your intended destination. The Culver City Green Bus Line carries riders across 25 square miles of several Westside communities. Lines 7 and 1 traverse the Marina’s main throughways. 310-253-6510; culvercitybus.com.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA, or Metro) oversees bus and rail lines in the Greater Los Angeles area. This is a massive network that can generally get you anywhere you need to be in Los Angeles. 323-466-3876; metro.net.
Metro Rail E Line Santa Monica
The Metro Rail E Line (formerly Expo Line) in Downtown Santa Monica is just 5 miles north of the Marina. A quick taxi ride will get you to the sparkling Marina waters in no time! Make sure to buy a Metro TAP Card in order to ride the Metro Rail. Cash is not accepted.

RIDESHARE
Rideshare companies such as Uber and Lyft operate throughout Los Angeles and at Los Angeles International Airport (pickups take place on the Departures level). In Marina del Rey, be sure to call your car to a safe location – do not attempt a pickup or drop-off along any major street. Find a landmark such as a large storefront in a parking lot to help your driver find you.
